Medical Insurance Plans for College Students

Tuesday, March 31st, 2009

It’s very easy to neglect medical insurance while planning an education. At that age, the last thing on a student’s mind is medical insurance. Teens tend to suppose they are immortal and that they will never suffer from a serious illness. Regrettably, no matter how fit an individual might appear, it is no guarantee of their continuing good health. An inexpensive student health insurance policy isn’t only for those with a stack of money, it’s an absolute necessity. Individuals who are covered by their parent’s medical insurance are generally covered up to their twenty-third birthday. For the student who doesn’t currently have cover on their parent’s insurance policy, acquiring insurance plans for affordable student health insurance should be an essential part of getting ready for a college education. So what is essential in an insurance policy directed at college students? Deductibles: This is a minimal yearly sum you have to pay before any medical benefits commence, very like an auto deductible. For instance, should the deductible be $500, you must to pay that amount before applying for any payment from your insurance.

What is meant by the term co-pay? When your deductible is met, most plans expect you to contribute a portion of the cost of every trip to the doctor’s surgery, medicine or operation. This, succinctly, is a co-pay.

Exactly what should your insurance pay for? Many plans include Health Maintenance Organization and Partnership for Prescription Assistance. This may mean particular specialists might be omitted from your list of health providers and may not be covered under a medical insurance policy. A directory of approved health providers are included with your health insurance plan, before you make a decision ensure you study this carefully.

Catastrophic medical insurance coverage: Limitations are frequent in student health insurance plans especially concerning critical illness, the extent of coverage included in most student medical insurance policies is by and large lower than a regular policy.

So what are the restrictions? Budget student medical coverage policies may put in place certain restrictions. It is really important to read over any insurance policy carefully to check out precisely what may and may not be included in your plan.

Have any health insurance documentation nearby at all times. It is not just not possible to predict an accident or an illness, but they are most likely to happen when not convenient. Ensure to be conversant with your college medical insurance policy, whether through your parent’s policy or with your own policy.

How or Why Some Famous Authors and a Poet Laureate Started Writing

Tuesday, March 31st, 2009

Let’s start right away by examining some famous authors and why they started writing.

Stephen King,
Author of Most Books that Non-Readers will Read

According to Joe Hartlaub, Mainer Stephen King started writing for his aunt when he was nine because she paid him (a quarter). Later, as King would describe in his book “On Writing” and Hartlaub describes in his article, King wrote short stories for extra money when he taught English. He wanted to make the most money per short story and so sold many early stories to men’s magazines. Work experience gave King enough insight into teens’ lives to write Carrie. King often credits his wife Tabitha with supporting and encouraging him to write. In “On Writing”, he also mentions that he writes for Tabitha as an audience, which perhaps explains why his books can hold almost any reader’s attention, because he has an audience in mind.

King is a multi-genre writer and does not just write horror fiction. For example, his non-fiction book, “On Writing” is one of the best books about writing available, not only because he shows how to use reality to create fiction, but also because he inspires writers.

Ray Bradbury
Author of “The Martian Chronicles” and “A Sound of Thunder”

In a 2004 interview cited below, Ray Bradbury explains that he began writing stories about Mars when he was 12. For Bradbury, what he loved in the beginning became the object of some of his most famous work, especially “The Martian Chronicles”. As Bradbury says, “The important thing is to be in love with something.”

Bradbury’s interview is fascinating, as he explains the relation between science fiction and space exploration. He also discusses how we should have stayed on the moon and used it as a base for further space explorations. Truly, he writes about his passion and for that passion.

In “Ray Bradbury’s Sunny Terrors,” by Jonathan Kirsch, we learn that Bradbury had a carnival worker magically tell him to live forever. According to the article, the carnival worker’s words influenced Bradbury to start writing and not stop. Perhaps writing is living forever . . .

Nora Roberts, also known as J.D. Robb
Author of “Northern Lights” and “Origin of Death” as well as many more romance novels and mysteries.

According to article “A Conversation with Nora Roberts” by Claire E. White, Nora Roberts began writing because of “the Blizzard of ‘79, two small children, no morning kindergarten, endless games of Candyland and short supply of chocolate. All of these things and events led up to me writing my first book . . . To entertain myself I decided to take one of the stories out of my head and write it down.”

Of course, Roberts had grown up reading romance novels and wrote the type of novel she read. Harlequin rejected her manuscripts for a year before they opened a new line that fit Roberts’ style (American and not British).

Billy Collins
U.S. Poet Laureate 2001-03 (which means that he was re-elected to the position)

In Christina Patterson’s article, “Billy Collins: Laughter in the Dark,” readers learn that Collins wrote his first poem at ten and continued on into graduate school, where he learned and later unlearned the complexity of humorlessness of past poems (imagine T.S. Eliot) and found it cool that he could write a poem about Elvis Presley instead.

Be sure to read the poems in Patterson’s article. I found the one in the upper right column hilarious.

Why do we write? It’s a fascinating question. I agree with many of the above authors. I write, as I’ve explained to someone recently, because I must. Writing is an irresistible temptation: a new DVD to be played, seeds to be planteda new life to live. Writing is also a necessity: the expression of my soul, my gifts to the worlda way this introvert touches the world. I wrote my first lyrics at 11. At the time, I wanted to write a love song that people all over the world would use to express their latent emotions, so that I could give to others a voice I so often did not have for myself. Also at 11, I began working on magazines and two books, one about an unknown pyramid inspired by a project at school and another about time travel. There’s no doubt Ray Bradbury put the thought there.

Imagine the carnival worker has just told you what he told Ray Bradbury, “You Will Live Forever . . .”

Let’s see if that does for you what it did for Bradbury.

Meet an “Accidental” Travel Writer

Sunday, March 29th, 2009

Fun, fishing and food are three of my most special interests – you can probably tell from the restaurant reviews I’ve written that I love good food. If meals in a place are over-priced or just plain bad you’ll never hear about that place from me unless it’s touted in the guidebooks in which case I’ll warn you away. Meals don’t necessarily have to be expensive to be good but you do deserve good service, so I watch that too. Trout and Catfishing mean I’m outdoors a lot – outdoor activities are a natural, healthy way to relieve stress. Fun includes fine arts, sports and social activities so I try to cover a reasonably wide variety of pastimes to broaden my options.

Writing isn’t exactly a new venue for me either. During the past three years alone I’ve published more than 250 articles on various aspects of Colombia, Ecuador, Panama, Brazil and Mexico. If you read South American Explorer magazine, Transitions Abroad magazine, Brazzil Magazine or Escape From America E-Zine, you’ve probably chanced on some of my articles.

Principally though, I teach EFL, English as a Foreign Language at the university level and write ELT, English Language Teaching, articles too. My preferred working area is Mexico City for the high salaries, expansive number of jobs, cultural and culinary aspects and opportunities for interesting day and weekend excursions. From the D.F., you can hike in the heights, let the Pacific lap at your legs, tangle with a trout, hot air balloon, hang glide, rummage through thousand-year-old ruins, sample gourmet delights from a dozen countries, photograph nudes, sing salsa, check out chunky chocolates and even e-mail your Mom on the cheap, among countless other things, all on a regular weekend. Not only that, but you get paid a better-than-average salary-for-a-short-work-week to be there.

My name is Larry M. Lynch. Although originally I’m from the Pennsylvania Dutch region of Pennsylvania, I grew up in Baltimore, one hour to the south of my hometown York, and moved to Colombia in 1995 continuing to work as an English teacher. With two breaks during the academic year, each one nearly two months long, I don’t have sufficient time to run around digging up the least and the latest to pass on to all of you, my unseen friends. But then, do we ever? We just do the best and most we can.

Yep, I’m in the right place alright, doing the right thing. What about you?

Who’s Reading Your Articles Anyways?

Saturday, March 28th, 2009

It has long been accepted that article writing is one of the best tools used in online businesses. In fact, since the advent of printing technology, writing has been a primary component of advertising.

For this reason, most online businesses contend that the trend of online success nowadays greatly depends on the articles. No wonder why the adage Content is King has long been accepted in the virtual industry today.

On the other hand, generating your own line of readers is not that easy. This is because there are so many websites and online business that are striving to succeed in the same level of marketing strategy like the one you are using.

Hence, what happens next is a clear competitive industry where everybody is trying to create their own area of market wherein they can entice their potential customers to patronize their product through article marketing.

Then again, the fact remains the same. There are still some online businesses that fail in their ventures. That even if they use and write articles in order to promote their website, their products, and services, they are still having a hard time of making it to the top.

What most of these people do not know is the fact that article marketing is not purely based and dependent on the articles itself. It is also important to know and assure yourself that your article is being read. Also, it is extremely important that you know who your readers are.

The problem with most online businesses is that they keep on producing articles, posting them to other websites, ezines, and article distribution sites, but the fact that they have selected the wrong place is already enough to generate negative results to their business.

In article marketing, it is not enough that you have written and submitted your articles to distribution sites. It is also important to know who your readers are. In this way, you will know that those who will read your articles will have the tendency to respond to your resource box and will eventually patronize your products or services.

So, where does this put you now? Do you have to change your articles or your topics? Or do you have to focus on a specific and targeted distribution sites or ezines that have a targeted niche market? They fail to realize that focusing on a niche market will definitely generate more positive results than merely posting your articles to different sites and ezines.

Focusing on a niche market will enable you to promote your website to a group of people who have the common interest that is associated to your line of business.

For instance, your business is all about golf equipments. You write articles about some golf tips and on how to choose golf equipments. Then, you have decided to post your article to one of the sites that is general.

What happens next is that your article may be read, no doubt about that, but with people who are not basically interested with golf. They may be enticed or motivated but the fact that it is not their primary purpose why they have visited that particular site, chances are, you cannot generate profit or even traffic from them.

Thus, it is important to generate articles that are focused on your niche. Think of it as a fish that you want to catch by using a bait. Once you have hooked them up, it would be easier to generate income from them.

So, if you really want to know who your readers are, try to find your niche. You can do this by conducting different researches, surveys, interviews, etc. In this way, you will be able to generate applicable information that you can use in construction informative articles.

Boiled down, it is extremely important to identify first your readers before you continue on generating more articles.

If you will not exert some effort in finding who your readers are, their likes, their demographic profile, or anything about them that will be very useful on your part, then, you will never be successful in the business.

Whats worse, you can never see the efficiency of article marketing. Its concept and principle will never work best for you.

Moreover, keep in mind that if you want to communicate with somebody, you have to use the words he has in his head. In this way, you will be able to get him on the hook.

Hence, in order to succeed in your business and at the same benefit from article marketing, it is important to know who your readers are before you try to use the other marketing tools.

GPS: Usability Over Functionality

Saturday, March 28th, 2009

There is an easy test that I like to use when evaluating a GPS, or any type of electronic device. I call it the user manual test. When I pick up a new GPS for the first time, I see how easily I can operate the GPS with common sense alone and without using the manual. Criteria for a good GPS is firmly based on how easily I can operate the menu options and pick up the functions. This is an aspect that some people overlook yet it is perhaps the single most important part of a GPS.

The first reason that user friendly functions and menus are so important is that the vast majority of people who buy GPS units are seasonal or occasional users. They are not out there 5 days a week, honing their skills and keeping the idiosyncrasies of their GPS at the forefront of their mind! Consequently, most users want to be able to pick the damn thing up and be able to get their hands on accurate information that can make the difference between getting lost, or even a fatal ending to an outdoor adventure.

The second reason that GPS units need to be easy to use is that they are often used by groups such as hunters, fishermen and hikers. This makes it quite likely that some members of the group will not be experienced with your particular model or brand of GPS. In these kinds of circumstances it is doubtful that anyone will want to sit down and read a user manual, that is if you still know where it is! So do yourself a favor and get a GPS that makes sense to you without having to go to the book, if for nothing else that from a safety point of view.

The third reason it that if you are willing to spend a couple of bucks on your GPS and choose a top brand such as Magellan or Garmin you don’t need to worry too much about what functions are included. The level of competition between these two companies is so high that neither is willing to put sub-standard products into the marketplace. At http://www.thegpscentre.com you can see reviews of GPS units and see how close these brand really are in both quality and price. What will make the difference will be the users ability to take advantage of the functions.

Remember, there is no point having a GPS with several navigation screens, thousands of automatic way-points if you can’t work out how to use them with ease. Happy trails and safe navigating to you all.

Betting Saloon Gaming: the Pastimes of Chance Betting Fans Participate in

Saturday, March 28th, 2009

For clarity’s sake: a gaming room is an edifice that features card playing. Guests will be encouraged to wager going for coin operated machines or trying out alternate pastimes. Betting room games usually have methodically determined percentages included which guarantee the gambling saloon retains an upper hand against the guests. internet casino

A legion of gaming room games can encourage you to become addicted rapidly. Take, for example, the stereotypical one-armed bandit, a cash operated gadget with three or more discs which spin if an arm attached to it is pulled. The instrument most often renders established by predefined patterns of motifs displayed on the display of the instrument. Unfortunately, betting establishment pastimes suggest a false impression of being in full control, thus deluding the client – the victim is presented judgments, but in actual fact these can never realistically eliminate the gamer’s fundamental disadvantage. This is induced by the betting room never paying up the full stake as expected. This modus operandi is regularly seen at work in acclaimed casino games such as straight poker, dice games, roulette or blackjack.

Five card stud poker is really a highly popular casino game. The gamesters, playing with covered hands, are placing bets into a principal pot which is given to the last player holding the leading combination of cards. (And as eveyone knows, the bluff may well prevail as well!) Analogous to seven card stud poker, blackjack is also an incredibly trendy casino game. A considerable chunk of its renown is by virtue of the mix of chance and mastery and choice making, as well as a practice named card counting. The aforementioned is a highly demanding strategy in which customers may actually skew the arm of chance of the card game to their personal profit by both betting and strategic opetations based on the cards shown.

“Craps” is yet another well-known casino wagering game where you try to predict the throw of 2 dice. Gamesters have to bet on the score of 1 spin, or on a sequence of rolls on 2 dice. Dissimilar to blackjack, there just isn’t any probable winning tactics you can exploit to bend the odds.

Roulette is a well-known game of luck in the course of which a croupier will twist a roulette wheel that holds a set of thirty seven (classical roulette) or, respectively exactly thirty-eight (American or Vegas roulette) distinctively tagged divisions in which a rolling pellet must come to land, which signifies the final winning number and its accompanying odds. If a participant happens to set their stake on a particular number and strikes it in other words they’ve got a lucky hand, the set bounty is 35 to 1, the stake itself being tossed back. Consequently in totality it’s increased by 36.

Please take care to be emphatically alert all the same for these betting establishment betting games can be especially dependency forming. Myriad lives have probably been ruined thru gambling and though it indeed may be entertaining, endeavour to control yourself.

Anti-Aging Treatments – Cosmetics and Cosmetic Surgery

The most popular and quickest anti aging treatment so far is the application of cosmetics and cosmetic surgery.

The purpose of cosmetic surgery is to repair congenital defects and damage to the body. Due to accidents it has also gained great popularity repairing the results caused by aging. The popularity of this anti-aging treatment has resulted to very high standards of specialization. Medical practitioners in this field achieves a very high degree of requirement in training and must pass several tests and years of study before being eligible to be sponsored by a cosmetic surgeon who himself has had several years of formal cosmetic surgery practice. Only then could the recent practitioner be accepted into the American board of Cosmetic Surgeon.

Aside from reconstructive surgeries that are done usually on deformities, another result that cosmetic surgery achieves is the restoration of the youthful appearance of the body. Stretch marks, birthmarks, scars, skin toning and rejuvenation, are done through the use of either invasive or non invasive procedures.

This modern mode of anti-aging treatments basically involves the following steps:

The pre-operative interview where the best approach to the treatment are discussed, procedures are laid out, results and expectations are talked on and possibly some other issues whenever there are. Marking will also be done where the approach of the surgery will take place.

Countdown to Showdown-152 Days Until The Wedding

Wednesday, March 18th, 2009

Well there is only 152 days left until I get married! I should introduce myself, I am Alan and I was what I thought was happily married for 17 years until this past June. Then I wasn’t. That quick. Long story and we will get into it as it comes up naturally, no lies and little sugar coating. Life is real. This is reality. Faced with the distinct possibility of being single for the rest of my life,(I am almost 50 and almost 350lbs!) I came face to face with the terrible shock of my baby brother’s sudden death! Of natural causes no less! Now at 43 years old you don’t expect someone to just keel over no matter how they lived. And he lived! Oh how he lived. That may be a book in itself someday but the shock must have done something to my brain because I woke up saying “I want to survive, no I want to really live!”

Coming to grips with all that had happened last year didn’t even begin to prepare me for what would come next. Well in the process of consoling some of my brother’s friends, I started writing to a girl that he knew when they were little. You know, same grade school, same high school, that kind of thing. They were pretty close and something sparked between them but my brother was a difficult person even back then and nothing became of it. The girl, Debby, married, had 3 wonderful boys, and was living in the same city that they both grew up in but they still drifted apart, even though Brian was the God-father of Debby’s first born, Jason. Well when Debby heard that my brother Brian had died, she was devastated. Part guilt, the rest profound sadness gripped her until she started to talk to her good friend’s older brother, who was only trying to console her. That’s when it happened. Both of us realized that by talking online we were compatible with each other. Well my father invited Debby to a family picnic because she was so close to Brian and he wouldn’t be there and well I picked her up and drove her and drove her home. Well we hit it off and the rest is history. Yeah right. Never happens. The rest is continuing to happen and in the coming months we will grow closer to each other and decide that we will spend the rest of our lives together. Now I’m no Prince Charming and most of Debby’s Sleeping Beauty days were spent with someone who never appreciated her, but we love each other and you would be surprised how good we look to each other because of it. Or maybe you wouldn’t be surprised. Ever been in love? Really? Well lets see what happens next. Every day like the first and be thankful. That is my mantra for this second time around. We will see if we have learned anything from history, or if we are doomed to repeat it.

Alan is a freelance writer and has written articles on other subjects as well but most of them have a dry wit and a grandfatherly wisdom that hopefully is enjoyable to read.
