Freelance Writers

Saturday, April 18th, 2009

It seems like we never stop finding new ways for the internet to get us profit.

One of the most recent ways people are using the internet for income, is freelancing.
Freelancing is where a company or individual hires someone with the skill(s) they
need to do a project for them. After the project the hirer pays the hired, and that’s
the end of the freelancer’s (the hired) work for that hirer.

The web has made freelancing mainly painless. Sites have been and are
emerging all where anyone with the right skills can get freelance work.
But the hardest workers are the freelance writers, because it takes a lot more to write,
than to design a web page look. There are tutorials for things like web design, but you
can’t tell someone how to write. That takes imagination, skill, and diligence,
to be a writer.

But you may be wondering what exactly how online writing helps you?
Well look at it this way, online, you have way more options than you do
when your limited to real-life encounters. Your likely to find 20 projects in the
first 5 minutes of writing.

But maybe your also wondering why not just try to get hired by a company?
When you work for a company, you can’t take breaks at your leisure, which is why so
many college students use freelancing. If you need a brake from it, you can take one!

The only trouble with freelancing online, is that it’s hard to start up, when you
have no references. So where do you start? Try joining reputable forums, and making
intelligent, decent length posts. Maybe even post some tutorials on the forum site.
Then when you can join one of these freelance sites, you can show that you’ve done
free writing already; and if you’ve done a good job at it, you’re likely to have a good
chance with any hirer you show the work to.

But you can’t take my word for it, you have to find a freelance site like www.writerlance.com , join up,

and give it a try for yourself. Try typing “freelance writing” or something similar into a
search engine, and see what sites you can find.

Be an Influential Presenter: Have Passion and Use Dynamic Examples

Saturday, April 18th, 2009

When we are asked to give a presentation — a keynote, a workshop, a sales presentation, or lead a meeting — one of our primary goals is to influence our listeners in some way. What are the tools, methods, attributes and attitudes that will help us to become powerful, influential presenters?

Have Passion for Your Topic If You Hope to Influence.

  • I have talked about having a passion for your topic before, but I feel it can’t be said enough. If we don’t care about our topics, how can we ever expect to influence others? Last year I attended a Security Summit intended for technology types. However, the presenter who was the most passionate and frightened me the most wasn’t a “techie” at all.
  • He was a passionate writer and speaker about airline security. He started by pointing out that security strategy isn’t any different from computer technology security. By showing the similarities of approaches and the need to think backward, “with the mind of a terrorist,” he showed clearly that “security is security” and the more secure we think we are by creating additional layers of security, we aren’t becoming safer.
  • Before you accept a presentation assignment, be truthful about your passion or lack of passion for the topic or the product. You may be able to entertain the listeners, but without passion, you will never be able to influence them.

Make Use of Dynamic Examples for Influence

At the Security Summit, the most dynamic example was as unnerving, and yet as easy to follow as an example could be. The security guru for airline safety talked about all of the new layers of safety measures that have been initiated since 9/11 — the airport check-through lines, the undercover agents on the planes, the pilot’s gun and the heavy security door to the cockpit that is bullet proof and locks from within the cockpit.

He then walked out of the room, closed the door and proceeded to knock on it, until someone let him back in (people assumed that the door had locked him out). He then asked how many in the room had flown recently and had noticed that the heavy security door was open throughout the flight, or had been opened for the pilot to use the restroom at the back of the plane.

He illustrated that in this situation we have made it easy for the terrorists. Now only one — not three — terrorist sitting toward the front of the plane who is quick and trained in the martial arts can dash through the open door, shut it to everyone else, surprise and overwhelm the pilot, take his gun, shoot those in the cockpit, and he is clear to fly the plane into any building he wishes. Were we all influenced by this demonstration? You bet.

You see, as long as you’re passionate about your topic and your examples are dramatic, you will be remembered as an influential presenter.

The Truth and Myth of Hair Loss

Saturday, April 18th, 2009

From standing on one’s head for 15 minutes a day to cutting some hair to make it grow it back thicker, there is never been a shortage of ideas looking for a miracle treatment to baldness. So here’s the truth, much of it surprising, on what may really support those looking for the answer to hair loss.

Does standing on one’s head actually make hair grow?

Myth. All this is a fantasy put forward on the basis that increased blood flow would combat hair loss. If merely it was that easy.

Smoking slows one’s hair growth.

Fact! Yes, this one is TRUE as smoking destroys hair follicles, interferes with blood and hormone circulation on the scalp & increases production of hair shrinking oestregen. Nevertheless other reason to give up!

Eating bread crusts puts hairs on the chest.

Fact! Yes, & not just your chest. The reason being that bread crusts own 8 times more antioxidants than the rest of its’ loaf. Research shows that antioxidants are a vital part of improving scalp circulation & creating melanin, the hormone that makes your hair thicker.

The more sex one enjoy the less hair people lose.

Fantasy! You don’t have to think too hard to realise how this myth may have started and numerous balding men have perpetuated. Variations of this myth comprise of the rumour that chemicals released during sex can cause hair loss. Again, there are no concrete proof to this but nevertheless, there is no doubt that men suffering hair loss will often assure this fantasy is around for many years to come.

Baldness shows how smart people are.

Fact! All that is not a fantasy presented by balding scientists in white coats, nevertheless is actually true. The higher one’s levels of brain growth protein, the more likely it is for one’s hair to fall out. More on this when those scientists really finally get their brain cells firing.

Does short hair cut makes your hair grow back thicker.

False! All hair above skin level is actually dead, hence cutting it short has no cause on the thickness & strength of hair growing back. The reason for this fantasy is that short, bristly hair will enjoy the looks of being thicker, but once it grows the TRUE state of affairs is revealed.

In the end, if you really want a full head of hair it is arguably very best to get a professional. One enterprise that has made a name for itself by using sports stars & celebrities to develop the fact that being bald is not cool is Advanced Hair Studio. With a long list of celebrity endorsements stretching back over 20 years Advanced Hair Studio has become one of the best known hair restoration businesses in the world. Prevent hair loss in the comfort of your own home with the Advanced Hair & Scalp Fitness Program.

Pray To Make This The Best Presentation Ever!

Tuesday, April 14th, 2009

Reeling from jet lag, I took a quick moment to compose myself before addressing the sales convention in Cleveland.

I felt the typical jitters you get before meeting a large, boisterous crowd. Usually, I’m able to channel this excess energy and electricity into performance dynamics; bigger gestures, more vocal impressions, and a wider span of eye contact.

But I caught myself being caught up in myself!

Hey, I thought, this isn’t about ME at all; it’s about THEM.

I hope it’s a great experience for them; after all, most have traveled a long way for this and it’s one of the high points of their selling season. When do they get a chance to see all of their associates, at once?

They don’t. This is it!

For just a second, I was truly humbled about my task. I needed to meet all of the energy in that room, and actually exceed it. I had to galvanize their spirit, but something had to buttress me, so I could do it.

Silently, I said a quick prayer, asking for the ability to meet this challenge.

In a second, my nerves calmed, and I felt serene.

The speech went very well, and I learned two lessons:

(1) Do it for them; and

(2) Don’t do it alone!

Underwear Sales Do Rather Well in the British Recession

Monday, April 13th, 2009

Sexy lingerie sales are rising even in these credit crunch markets. With well known retailers getting into financial trouble and high street chains shutting down faster and faster, the female lingerie market is seeing sales escalate at a marvellous rate.

A UK girls lingerie retailer in the UK has reported a sales escalation by eight per cent. The main reason appears to be clear, girls appreciate to feel gorgeous regardless of how the UK economy is doing. With more men spending time at home instead of going out, ladies are finding the plus points of looking attractive for their partners.

For the ultimate in hot lingerie, lingerie retailers offer a range of alluring and affordable lingerie. For the woman that likes to look sweet and pretty there are silk chiffons, and for the more adventurous there is satin bras and knickers. For the girls that are wanting to seduce then there are balcony bras and open knickers that is sure to please their partner. Check this sexy tankinis from Phax, Sunflair, Gok Wan, Gottex, Seafolly and Miracle Suit.

Of course, girls underwear is not only for females. Guys underwear is furthermore seeing a shoot up in sales, mostly due to the ground breaking David Beckham magazine adverts for Emporio Armani.

Consequently whilst the recession continues to grab headlines, it seems ladies are more interested in grabbing phenomenal underwear.

Your Writer’s Voice is Inside You

Saturday, April 11th, 2009

Why do you write?

I write to change my world by revising and giving it a happy ending. I think most write fiction to create new realities and new ways of expressing ourselves. It gives us the power to fix anything we don’t like in the real world. We write to escape, and to escape we must express ourselves in our writers voices.

Who do you become when you write?

First, you become vulnerable. You must become the characters, all of them — even the bad guys. For the characters to be compelling I believe they must contain some real part of the writer’s personality. You have all the voices inside you waiting to come out; they only need the right character. Being able to let them each speak for themselves, individually, is your writers voice. You literally must pour yourself into your writing. That isn’t as much a cliche as you may have thought.

Have you ever found an old writing of yours, something you’d written a few years ago, and heard a certain voice that brought up emotions? It will have a tone of realism that could be embarrassing or pleasant, depending on the words and topic you chose, but it’s your real writers voice. It is probably something you wrote on the spur of the moment while in a particular emotional state. Learn to control it by becoming each character. To become each character, you must know them well. Study them, make them individuals by basing them on someone real.

I’ve heard some creative writers say they don’t worry about the characters, because they think the story is more important. They admit throwing card-board characters in as they’re needed to get the story to the finish line. I haven’t read their work so I don’t know if they can pull it off or not, but I wonder who performs the action, how is emotion brought in? Even if it’s completely narrated, the narrator still needs a strong voice.

I agree with the statement that the story is important, but the characters are at least equally important. Good ones can fool the reader into thinking even a bad story is good. Good, solid characters with consistently strong voices can sell mediocre serial books. Readers read to escape and they have no pity for the authors. They don’t know or care that you were forced to draw on painful memories and cry buckets of tears to make the characters true-to-life; they only know if they can identify with them or not. They can’t become that particular character or overcome the obstacle, without the true writer’s voice bringing the character to life. Bottom line – if they don’t laugh or cry, they won’t like your story.

So, to find your writers voice, dig through all the animosity, fear, anger, cruelty, humor, joy and heartbreak of everyday living – past, present and perceived. Twist it, exaggerate it, and give it to your characters to work out. Your readers will love it.

Writing a Life Bio for Your Graduating Class After 40 Years of Healing – Part One

Saturday, April 11th, 2009

Writing a life bio for some websites can be a challenge. Especially, when the site doesn’t tell you how any words you get, or what the guidelines are regarding reference to other commercial websites. What? No remarks section!

After 40 years of healing, I recently attempted to create such a masterpiece, daring make contact with the kids with whom I shared those critical, formative four years.

I’ve since learned that my work probably won’t be accepted. Having worked all night on it, I decided to publish in two parts here. The following has been submitted for the Class of 1965, Franklin High School in Portland, Or.

My “Life Bio”, as they call it here, can best be read by Googling Russ Miles. I’m not the software developer in England, although I often wished that I shared his skills. Anyway, I’ll be on page one. lol The ezine articles writer, and I’m probably listed a hundred or so more times.

http://MilesBooks.com is my personal website where you classmates can keep yourself occupied for a couple of weeks if you like. As my computer people won’t be here to fix the glitch for a day or two, I can’t update the site, so I am finding fun ways to fill in my time.

I’ve just joined MySpace http://www.myspace.com/russmiles, and have posted my 4th day Blog. Check it out. If you are already a member, please add me to your “Friends” list. This is quite a Cyberspace vehicle. I’m only beginning to learn what I must do to fly it :)

OK, I’m the father of 4 children, Grandpa of 9. I’m single, again, and my 16-yr-old daughter, Cassiopeia, moved in with me unannounced on New Years Day. We remember being 16, don’t we? I was the deaf kid from a logging camp – fresh out of an 8th grade class of 6 kids of which only two of us were boys.

Lord, I hated high school! A class of 600, mostly self-consumed city kids, jockeying for position and but a few teachers could comprehend or relate to what I was experiencing. One day, I will publish a book about it.

Had it not been for discovering wrestling, speech and drama, I doubt that I would have survived. Even then, it was my 58 Plymouth convertible that afforded me the chance to stay relatively sane. Kids from other schools didn’t know what a klutz I was.

I’d have killed to be a part of you then! I mean, somebody beside myself. Raised a Catholic, I knew that suicide was a “Mortal Sin.” That, it would have taken more than 3 “Our Fathers” and 4 “Hail Mary’s” to have been forgiven. Fortunately, I had a Very Good God watching over me to make me realize that I wouldn’t be able to say even them if I killed myself.

Unfortunately, several in our class, didn’t believe that, did they?

Anyway, today it is more acceptable to depart with such a wasted statement. Probably, this explains why more teenagers kill themselves today. Have things improved? I hardly think so… But, on the bright side, shooting teachers and fellow classmates is more acceptable now. Still, I’m glad that was not an option in our class. We didn’t kill each other – at least, not in the flesh.

Hey, guys and gals, I don’t hold any of you responsible for what I went through. We were just kids. How could you know what I was feeling? Would you have even had a chance to care, if you had?

I only pray that I have imparted some understanding, by not making speedy judgments of others, to my own children when someone is “Out of it” at their school.

From what I see, they are each compassionate and understanding. Not to mention, “Forgiving.” Yes, this too is something I have learned.

I have done many things to be forgiven for, both since and back when we were in Franklin. I didn’t have the courage to call wrong, “Wrong!” On occasion, I’ve even called wrong, “Right!”
