Growing Demand for Debt Advice

Monday, May 18th, 2009

Hundreds of thousands of borrowers benefited from debt advice last year, the Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform reports.

It seems that over 100,000 people were helped by Government-funded face-to-face debt advice services alone, while many more called the Government-funded debt advice phone service, which has reported a 40% annual increase in the number of calls.

Meanwhile, demand for Business Debtline, the debt advice service for businesses, doubled between autumn 2007 and autumn 2008.

Consumer Affairs Minister Gareth Thomas said: “It is imperative that when people are struggling with debt, they seek assistance as soon as possible. There are a wide range of organisations who provide expert advice and can really make a difference when it comes to resolving debt problems. We have made a firm commitment to support these services so they can continue to help those most in need.”

And Government-funded services are not the only ones offering debt advice. There are many charities and commercial organisations that offer free debt advice – and may be able to provide the professional debt solutions that can help borrowers clear their debts as soon as realistically possible.

Entering 2009, it seems demand for debt help is likely to grow along with the nation’s economic problems. After all, the Council of Mortgage Lenders is predicting 75,000 repossessions; KPMG is expecting 150,000 insolvencies; and the Government has admitted that the recession is likely to be longer and deeper than originally expected.

“With such an uncertain year ahead of us, it’s vital that borrowers seek debt help at the first sign of trouble,” said a debt management expert for Gregory Pennington.

“In general, the longer they leave it, the greater the chance their debts will spiral out of control, especially if something happens to their income. Given the worrying predictions about rising unemployment in the UK, this is a very real consideration for many people – they may be able to afford their debt repayments at the moment, but would they be able to cope with them if their income dropped substantially?”

Orange to Set Trend with Cheap Mobile Broadband for Small Businesses

Monday, May 18th, 2009

In a move which it reckons makes it the network with the most cost effective broadband packages on the market, Orange has cut its mobile broadband prices for small businesses.

In a limited time offer between 1 May and 31 July, small business customers who are already with Orange and who decide to take on mobile broadband can do so for only £7.50 per month for an unlimited download contract. New customers get the same deal for £10 per month – with both contracts subject to fair use policies.

Small business adoption of mobile broadband has been slower than the industry expected, and Orange’s decision to cut its prices by as much as 50 per cent for this period is intended to encourage small to medium businesses to give mobile broadband a try. Ovum analyst Pauline Trotter told ZDNet UK today: “Small-business owners have often been wary of mobile broadband, because it can be so hard to fathom what services will cost, but this should certainly stimulate the market, and I’d expect other operators to follow suit”.

After July 31 when the offers have ended, business customers can sign up to Orange Business Everywhere Unlimited for £15 a month or opt for Business Everywhere Traveller for £35 a month, including 25MB of roaming allowance.

Roofline and UPVC Profiles Specialists – Double Environmental Ratings for PVC-u

Monday, May 18th, 2009

Over the next few years, suppliers to the building industry are likely
to see continued pressure to supply building components that have
demonstrable sustainable properties.

Already there have been many advances made in this area, especially
within our industry, the most recent of which has been an A rating for
PVC-u windows by the Building Research Establishment (BRE) in its 2008
Green Guide.

One of the reasons why PVC-u windows gained this top rating was because
of the amount of work already being done in the area of recycling. By
continuing to improve the environmental aspects of our industry in this
way we can help developers and housing providers in both the public and
private sector meet their own green build targets. Ultimately, everyone
benefits through savings on disposal costs in addition to finding new
uses for material that would otherwise end up in landfill.
PVC-u is not usually a material associated with recycling but the steps
already taken means that we are beginning to change perceptions.
Without a doubt, it is a low maintenance material that requires no
ongoing upkeep and as well as offering longevity, however some still
mistakenly believe that it is not possible to recycle PVC-u.
When used in windows and doors, un-plasticised PVC is one of the most
rigid polymers at normal ambient temperature and shows little
deterioration after decades of exposure to the elements. This is just
one of the reasons why it has become such a popular choice, offering the
building and homeowner sector a cost-effective low maintenance solution.

Eurocell Profiles Ltd is one of the UKs leading suppliers of PVC-u
window, door, conservatory and roofline systems. From its base in Derbyshire,
Eurocell supplies a national network of fabricators with a uniquely comprehensive
range of upvc profiles including href="http://www.strategyconsultinglimited.co.uk/upvc-windows.html">
windows, inline patio doors, vertical sliders, conservatories, roofline, cavity
closers and curtain walling. Eurocell Building Plastics (EBP) is the sister company of Eurocell
Profiles and operates over 76 depots nationwide
stocking roofline,
windows trims, conservatory roofs and most other items required by the trade and DIY
customer.

Gorgeous Going out Dresses to Match Your Figure

Thursday, May 14th, 2009

Each girl’s body is formed differently. For each body shape or figure type, there’s just the right look and fit when it comes to going out dresses. Whether you are tall, short, or of medium height, or whether you’re slim or full-figured, there’s just the right dress that makes you look great when you are out.

You should aim for a fit to intensify and complement your body shape. So, why do different styles of dresses work with diverse body shapes? All clothing is intended to bring out or emphasize specific areas of the body. The clothing could also intentionally de-emphasize selected areas of the body. Some women want to stress their legs, some the upper portion of their body, some their waistline, and so forth. Take a look at the different styles of going out dresses available for each body shape below.

Slim Figure – Show It Off! With a slim figure, you have many options. You can create’curves’ with a bell-shaped dress and draw attention to the bust line. Or, you can wear prom dresses that bring out the waistline and wear a belt to form curves. Also, wear your hair down if you have long hair. Long, flowing hair also adds shape to your figure. Don’t forget, the longer and straighter the robe, the more slim you can appear.

Formed Like an Hourglass? The hourglass figure is coveted by many but enjoyed by few! With this kind of figure, pretty much anything goes. You can wear your prom dress long, short, sleeveless, with or without a jacket. Your figure does not need to be hid or compensated for. So, be creative and do not be scared to show it off.

Apple-Shaped Figure: With an apple-shaped body, you can try promenade dresses that attract attention to the mid-section of your body. With a high waistline, you will not have to fret so much about dresses being too tight on the waist or hips. This gives you masses of styles to work with to find the right fit. You can also wear a shorter dress if you have great legs. Full skirts or ankle-length skirts can appear too huge or long on a petite figure.

Shapely Shape: If you are bigger up top, you may either wear dresses that de-emphasize the upper body or vice versa. To stress your higher body, look for promenade dresses with good support as well as a great neckline. If you need to de-emphasize the higher body, wear a robe that pulls the eye to the hemline or waistline. Or, you can wear a headscarf or jacket. Consider a body con dress. You’ll be able to find surprising designs by Mori Lee, Jovani, Clarisse, Niteline, Dave and Johny, Paris, Riva and Alyce Designs. From your own PC, you can simply compare colours, sizes, styles, and prices online and find a selection of jewellery, promenade shoes, and accessories to finish your ensemble. Intensify your figure with a dress that is just right for you!

Developments in Immunohistochemistry Permit Improved Diagnostic Sensitivity Cancer of the Mesothelium

Thursday, May 14th, 2009

Malignant pleural mesothelioma is a unusual and quick acting tumor for which no helpful therapy is around in spite of the discovery of several potential molecular and genetic targets. The final stages of MPM diagnosis and the long period of time that exists connects contacts and diagnosis have made it difficult to fully learn the role of risk factors and the resulting molecular effects.

Many medical centers are witnessing more patients that are suffering from pleural mesothelioma. This presents pathologists involved in making the diagnosis with a number of problems, which can be broken up into those encountered in making the distinction between cancer of the mesothelium and harmless changes and those seen in differentiating cancer of the mesothelium from other types of epithelial and tissue tumors that connect. Immunohistochemistry is a major factor in helping to make the diagnosis, however, it should be understood with regards to the experimental setting and radiological characteristics, and with a knowledge of the broad morphological differentiations existing in cancer of the mesothelium.

Mesothelioma is a cancer affecting the serosal cavities, an anatomic site that also gets affected frequently by metastatic disease, mostly from primary cancers of the breast, ovary and lung. Developments in IHC have lead to improvement in diagnostic sensitivity and specificity in the differential diagnosis in both cytological and histological material. As of late, the researchers used high throughput technology to the identification of new flags that might assist in telling the difference between cancer of the mesothelium from ovarian and peritoneal cancer, tumors with closely related histogenesis and antigenic profile. Along with the improved medical devices obtainable for serosal carcinoma diagnosis, knowledge regarding the biology of mesothelioma has increased recently.

Tendonitis and the Effects on Your Routine

Sunday, May 10th, 2009

What turns out to be a small, yet annoying pain in your joint, can quickly turn into something much more debilitating. At first, you just think it might be a pulled muscle. Maybe I did a bit too much weight? But the intermediate to advanced bodybuilder knows what muscle soreness feels like after a workout. This isn’t it. But there is a potential solution.

My biceps routine, which was progressing quite nicely, turned into a non-existent routine (curling a 30lb dumbbell was impossible) after I was “officially” diagnosed with acute Tendonitis in my right arm (just below the elbow joint). The doctor said that this particular Tendonitis doesn’t heal. It can get less painful but the micro tears and damage are permanent. As usual, the recommendation was to 1) quit whatever aggravates it 2) use a cream that gives some heat to the area.

Rather the follow rule #1, because if you are a hardcore bodybuilder, just quitting the exercise isn’t how this injury happened in the first place. I found something that worked. I didn’t want to quit doing bicep curls. Bicep curls are one of the most recommended exercises for building mass. It’s a simple, basic movement that works.

I did stop doing biceps movements until the pain subsided. Once the pain was significantly less, I decided to adjust my form, have a spotter assist on certain bicep exercises and used a topical cream (Biofreeze by AST). I changed the movement to go strict on any and all bicep exercises. My arms are now tight to the sides with constant tension on the muscle. Using a spotter for dumbbell bicep curls helped me eliminate the natural tendency to flare out the arms to get that weight to the completion phase of the exercise. Heavy weight with the arms slightly out tends to put a lot of pressure on that tendon.

Taking a break from the exercises allowed me to heal enough to think rationally about the adjustments I needed to make in my routine. Going back to strict form, using a topical (heat) cream and having a spotter assist with a few of the bicep movements has all but eliminated (in a medical sense) my Tendonitis . I suffer no more pain from bicep movements because of these modifications.

Article Writing – Plagiarism

Wednesday, May 6th, 2009

Recently, Dan Brown, the author of “The DaVinci Code”, had to go to court over claims that he stole his ideas for the book and subsequent movie. To make a long story short, he won the case. But plagiarism is a problem. The question is, how fine a line is it between plagiarism and “common knowledge?” What exactly is plagiarism?

Here is the definition of plagiarism right out of the dictionary.

“n 1: a piece of writing that has been copied from someone else and is presented as being your own work 2: the act of plagiarizing; taking someone’s words or ideas as if they were your own”

The obvious examples of plagiarism are just that, obvious. For example. Somebody has written an article on George Washington and in the article is a line that reads:

“From 1759 to the outbreak of the American Revolution, Washington managed his lands around Mount Vernon and served in the Virginia House of Burgesses”

Now, you’ve decided that you want to write an article about George Washington and present as many facts about him as possible. An obvious form of plagiarism would be to take the line above exactly as it is and stick it in your article. There is absolutely no doubt that you have plagiarized the article.

But then let’s take another look at the definition.

“n 1: a piece of writing that has been copied from someone else and is presented as being your own work 2: the act of plagiarizing; taking someone’s words or ideas as if they were your own”

Well, now we run into a gray area. According to the definition, copying isn’t the only form of plagiarism. It also includes taking somebody’s words or ideas and presenting them as if they were your own.

This brings up an interesting question. If a person wants to write an article about George Washington and wants to include the piece of information that from 1759 to the outbreak of the American Revolution he did whatever it was he did, how can you do this? Certainly this isn’t your idea. You didn’t think of it. This is simply a piece of history that you’re reporting on. Can’t you do that? If so, how? Can you simply reword the sentence? Some say no. Some say that even doing that you have to site the source you got the information from.

Well, what if you didn’t get this information from a particular source? What if during your days in college you just happened to be a history buff and studied a lot about Washington and just happened to remember this thing that you learned. And, to make matters worse, the sentence you happened to come up with is almost identical to the one above? Did you plagiarize the work?

Let’s submit an even more difficult example. You’re writing about baseball, something that almost everybody knows about and you start your article off with the line “There are 9 innings in a regulation baseball game”.

Pretty obvious statement. Certainly it’s something that everybody knows and somewhere in the world, somebody wrote something on baseball and had a line that was similar to the one above if not identical.

Did you plagiarize the line?

Good question. Maybe that’s why we have courts and lawyers.

Plagiarism is not always as clear cut and dried as you might think.
