Cheap Dedicated Servers Abound with Healthy Competition

Monday, November 16th, 2009

The healthy competition going on between technology giants Cisco Systems Inc and Hewlett-Packard Co. has made it possible for cheap dedicated linux servers to become more accessible to the public.

Hewlett Packard has reportedly announced the existence of its more economical deal in the networking scene in a bid to become the leader in the data center market. This development reportedly surprised the investors of this computer and printer giant.

On Wednesday, HP announced that it will proceed with its purchase of 3Com Corp, a global and pioneering leader for Ethernet networking technology. The price of the purchase has been set at a staggering $2.7 billion.

The purchase was clearly made in a bid for HP to revive its networking business as current Chief Executive Mark Hurd has been exerting effort on this line of business for the past year. This lucrative deal was sealed in a bid to outperform close rival Cisco Systems Inc. The latter has started in the dedicated server business which also completely competes with HP.

3Com moved away from Silicon Valley a few years ago and transferred to Marlborough, Massachusetts. The profits and revenues of this company have been on a decline for the past few years. The market cap of the company is set at$2.23 billion. Analysts believe that HP is making the right move in purchasing 3Com.

Cisco is expected to announce its move following this development.

Mobile Broadband Etiquette 101

Monday, November 16th, 2009

The question of etiquette applicable to mobile communication is gaining a lot of focus in recent times. Intel’s research on this issue has prompted a flurry of opinions and viewpoints being aired freely. The research was conducted on behalf of the chip manufacturer by Harris Interactive Research who surveyed American adults online and presented findings in a report entitled the “Intel Holiday Mobile Etiquette”.

The study revealed that a major proportion of those surveyed, amounting to nearly 80%, agreed that some rules need to be followed while using mobile communication devices. Almost 70% of the respondents were against personal use of mobiles on company time.

While on a date, 60% of the people surveyed would disapprove of their companions using these services. Nearly 90% of people felt that the unspoken rule of not using mobiles in churches or religious places is sacrosanct and must not be disregarded. More than 50% of respondents did not like the idea of dinner table companions browsing in secret while eating. The surprising revelation which came from the study is that almost ths of those surveyed thought it was quite fine to do a bit of email checking within the safe confines of the restroom.

While the study turned out some expected and predictable reactions to what can be considered non conformity with accepted social behaviour, the not so expected views of a small proportion of people who are agreeable to mobile use at dinner or in church or other religious places are really startling.

If you haven’t yet joined the ranks of mobile internet users, take a look at pay as you go mobile broadband, however it is fair to point out that how you choose to use the service; “to conform or not to conform” is a matter for you to decide.

Smart Things to Do with the Child Trust Fund Voucher and the Helping Hand it Gives to 18 Year Olds

Monday, November 9th, 2009

One of the obligations of being a parent is to try to ensure a good future for a child. It’s something that a lot of mums and dads are eager to aim for and that is a worthy thing to do. Regrettably a not inconsiderable amount of these parents do not realise the saving opportunities that are available to them in the UK. Make no mistake if they fail to use to invest in the Child Trust Fund then they are undoubtedly missing a trick.

So what in essence is a Child Trust Fund and what advantage does it give to mums and dads trying hard to save for the children? Basically the Child Trust Fund is a savings account for children that parents and other family members and friends can contribute too. No one is allowed to take out the money and when the child gets to 18 he or she alone can withdraw it and do with it as he or she wants.

There are a number of inducements that the Government created when the scheme was unveiled that make investing in it a very attention-getting proposition. The cash that is in the Fund is allowed to grow free of Income and Capital Gains Tax so as a long term investment it is a highly-effective way to build up savings.

Perhaps the most remarkable part of the scheme is that the Government gives every newborn baby a voucher that is worth two hundred and fifty pounds. The voucher can be used to begin a Child Trust Fund and over the course of time the invested money can build so that when it matures it could be used to pay for the later stages of the young adult’s education at college or maybe even at University.

On The Whole the Child Trust Fund is something that all parents should be aware of and take full advantage of.

The Scottish Friendly are accredited providers of the Fund so visit their site for more information about the Fund.
