Bad Read
Bad read, good luck. A few weeks ago, I was playing a sit ‘n go poker online tournament and I was sitting with some very aggressive players, and I could see that they were playing with some very subprime hands. Since I knew that it was just a matter of time when they got aggressive with the wrong hand, I was biding my time. Eventually, I got my chance with an Ace-King off suit. I raised before the flop to scare out anyone with a drawing hand and to get an idea of what my callers hand, and I only got one caller. When the flop came out Ace Queen 9, I raised and my opponent called at the casino, so I put him on high pair with a low kicker. I was pretty stoked, and when I saw a King come out on the river, I figured my top two pair kicked his top pair’s butt, so I pushed all in.
He called, and we turned our cards over. He flipped over Q-9 unsuited, for two pair on the flop. I completely misread the guy! I still won the hand, but if I hadn’t lucked out with that king on the turn, I would have been screwed.
He turned out to be a much looser poker player than I gave him credit for, and it wasn’t long before he knocked himself out with another marginal hand. > fmore experience dealing with stress, you might not let the argument send you down a road of bad decision making. I’m not saying poker is going to keep you from cheating on your girlfriend, but what I am saying is that it gives you experience at handling situations. If you practice staying in the present, you might do a better job dealing with your otherworldly realities.
